We know moving is an exciting and sometimes stressful time so here are some moving tips to help you on your way.
Remember:
Moving The Mountain
Get quotes early and organise your removalist well in advance. If you are keen and have a few mates you could even move yourself. There are lots of local removalists about so get in early to pick the one that suits you.
Insure Your Assets
Organise insurance for your new property. Even upon exchange this can be valuable. Upon settlement home and contents insurance policies need to be cancelled, transferred or new insurance taken. Shop around and get the best deal as there are lots of different insurance companies around.
Secure Your Lifelines
Internet, telephones & mobiles are for most of us our lifeline to society. Don’t forget to advise your telecommunications provider/s that you are moving. This should be done at least a week prior to settlement to avoid confusion of bills or delay.
You Need Energy
It may be easier for all parties if the power is not disconnected completely. Rather, if you contact your energy provider/s a couple of weeks prior to settlement and advise them of your moving date they will send someone out to get an accurate meter reading. This will again avoid bill confusion or delay.
Don't Forget The Pets
If you have pets that are microchipped you need to remember to contact your vet so they can update your pets microchip. Also consider getting a friend to take care of your pet on moving day.
Tips On Packing:
Think Ahead
• Don’t leave everything to the last minute – start early
• Have a clear out or garage sale before moving
Sensible Packing
• Pack an 'essentials' box for the first night in your new home and carry it with you.
• Always pack heavy items in small boxes.
• Pack one room at a time, clearly labeling each box with details of its contents and the room to which it belongs.
• Clearly label boxes that contain breakables as FRAGILE
• Keep all boxes for each room together. This will save time unpacking.
• It may sound obvious but pack heavier items on the bottom of the box and lighter items on top.
• Pack important documents together, such as birth and marriage certificates, and keep them in a safe place.
Final Inspection/ Cleaning The Property
Before the final inspection the property needs to be cleaned thoroughly. If you are doing it yourself try to do all heavy cleaning (stove, oven, windown, lawns etc) in advance.
If cleaning is not your thing book a professional cleaning company well in advance to come and do all the work for you after your have moved out.
